GENERAL INFORMATION
- A standard game lodge situated on the north coast of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park in the Natal Safari region
- Monitor turtles by night with the resident turtle expert
- The only lodge in the reserve - feels like your own private resort
- Rocktail Bay's beach voted as one of the Best in the World by Outside Magazine in the USA
Rocktail Bay Lodge is situated metres inland from the warm Indian Ocean and some of the most beautiful and unspoilt beaches in South Africa. Here, you can walk undisturbed for hours along almost 30km of pristine coastline, or snorkel or scuba dive in the Maputaland Marine Reserve enjoying exciting encounters with huge shoals of fish, dolphins and whales. The surrounding area has been declared a World Heritage Site area and the Lodge is tucked away just inland amongst the trees and out of sight. There are no power lines or telephones lines here. This solitude is a rare feature found in few places on our planet, ideal for people who want to truly relax and unwind on one of the best coastlines anywhere in the world.
11km south of the camp, is the lodge’s fully accredited dive-centre with a diving operation that is unrivalled anywhere in South Africa. One of the highlights in summer is diving with pregnant ragged-tooth sharks when they migrate up north or accompanying the resident turtle expert on research drives at night helping to monitor the turtles.
Other lodge activities include fly-fishing, snorkelling, swimming, bird-watching, horse riding and drives to Black Rock, the nearby hippo pools and to the surrounding community in open 4x4 Land Rovers.
