Secret surfspots abound up this stretch of coastline for those tough enough to brave the freezing waters, and for those who aren't, deserted beaches are ideal for long walks. Fishing villages dotting the coast offer affordable accommodation in untouched surroundings and nights spent gazing at the stars after sumptuous seafood dinners make this the perfect getaway. Around the month of September depending on the rains, the arid landscape literally springs to life.
Visitors can travel through the seaside villages of Yzerfontein and Langebaan to the West Coast National Park where magnificent swathes of brightly coloured flowers carpet the ground. The Spring Flower Festival attracts visitors from around the world as nature presents herself in all her glory.
Slightly inland from the coast, the ancient Cederberg mountain range is thought to be one of the oldest formations on earth, having been at the centre of Gondwanaland before the continent split apart.Incredible rock formations, such as the Wolfberg Cracks, spur visitors on to the top of the peaks where beach sand and ancient seashells cover the earth in a natural, thought provoking display of history.
