Day 1 - 5: Bazaruto Archipelago

If it is a fishing and beach vacation that you long for, the Bazaruto Archipelago is your answer. Catch your connecting flight from Johannesburg Airport directly into Benguerra Island, step of the plane onto pristine white beaches, blue water snorkeling and a fishing mecca.

With both Deep Sea Fishing (Game Fishing) and Saltwater Fly Fishing on offer, Benguerra Island has it all. Fly fishers can throw a line for an absolute wealth of species. Most commonly encountered are kingfish (including Giant Trevally) king and queen mackerel, kawakawa and springer. Even the much sought-after bonefish is found around the island.
From April onwards, sailfish become more numerous and the hot months of October to December see an increase in the number of marlin strikes. Catch-and-release of all species is encouraged.

Besides for the fishing, the island also boasts some of the best scuba diving and snorkeling in the world and is one of the last remaining habitats of the endangered Dugong (A pale, voluptuous sea mammal fabled to have made bygone mariners believe in mermaids.) Other activities include beach walks, Landrover trip with picnic lunches and Dhow sunset cruises.

Four overnights at Benguerra Lodge (on a full board basis including park fees and scheduled activities. (Rates exclude fishing excursions and can be arranged prior to departure or whilst at the lodge)
